Citing his years of experience and passion for music, Patrick Marum has been named the new band director at North Attleborough High School.
Marum assumed the role July 1. Thomas Rizzo, the school’s band director and a music teacher for many years, was recently named the new assistant principal at NAHS. Prior to working in North Attleborough, Marum taught instrumental and general music at the Interdistrict School for Arts and Communication in New London, Conn. for two years.
“I’m so excited for the opportunity to work with the students and staff here in North Attleborough,” Marum said in an announcement. “From the current staff, former students turned friends, and everyone else I’ve met from the school system, I’ve felt at home from the very beginning. I’m looking forward to continuing to build on the already amazing music program here and create lasting relationships within the community.”
Marum received his undergraduate degree in music education and trumpet performance from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. While a student, he participated in chapel jazz and trumpet ensembles, chamber groups, symphony band, wind ensemble, and the University of Massachusetts Minuteman Marching Band.
Marum served as a drum major for the UMMB and was a member of the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy IMPACT team. He also brought back and taught the Mace Techniques class at UMass after a hiatus of several years.
“Patrick will undoubtedly have a positive impact on NAHS’ music program and its students as a result of his years of experience and passion for music and education,” said NAHS Principal Haviland said. “We are so fortunate to have Patrick joining our team here at NAHS and we are excited to formally welcome him to our school community this fall.”
