It looks like Michael Gallagher’s time in North Attleborough isn’t quite over yet.
Gallagher, who served as town administrator and interim town manager for the last four years, was recently appointed to the position of assistant town manager. Michael Borg, the current town manager, said Gallagher’s role would include some of the day-to-day operations, such as procurements, project management, collective bargaining with department heads, and facility maintenance.
“I crafted this position and job description, and Mr. Gallagher presented himself as a well-qualified individual,” said Borg at the July 13 Town Council meeting.
Borg added that having Gallagher in this role will allow the town manager to focus on more long-term plans. The position was included in the new FY21 budget, and Borg said funding was made available through some position transfers and cost savings.
“He’s officially in the position now,” said Borg.
In addition to this, Borg said that Rajon Hudson will continue in his role as administrative assistant and clerk to the Town Council. His contract was set to expire at the end of June.
“He’s been an exemplary team member and goes above and beyond to make sure we’re ready,” he said. “I want to make him a permanent part of the team.”
Susan Harvey, who has also been a part of the town manager’s office, had spoken to Borg in late April about applying for an open position with the North Attleborough Fire Department in the business office. A hiring freeze is currently in place, but exceptions can be made for necessary positions. Borg spoke to Fire Chief Chris Coleman, and the decision was made to allow Harvey to apply to the job, for which she has been hired.
“I told her I would be fully supportive,” said Borg.
