Michael Borg will begin his role as Town Manager in March, but he will also continue as an adjunct professor.
At its meeting on Jan. 27, the Town Council voted unanimously to approve Michael Borg’s contract as the new Town Manager. Borg will begin on March 2, with a $170,000 salary. Regular performance reviews will be held, and the contract will last through June 30, 2023, to align with the fiscal year calendar. In addition to a 2 percent cost of living increase in the second and third year, Borg could also receive a merit increase of up to 2 percent.
In addition to being the Town Manager, Borg made a request to continue as a professor at the United States Naval War College in Newport, R.I., where he has taught for five years. He said the class is a six-month online course, and students download all materials, meaning that he doesn’t need to physically be in the classroom.
The incoming Town Manager added that there is a one-hour ‘office hour’ that he does each week to take questions from students. He said this is flexible in terms of when he does it and it can be scheduled to be outside his hours in North Attleborough.
“I’ve been doing this for five years and it’s never been an issue,” he said.
The council voted unanimously to approve the request.
